Wrestling season technically ended several weeks ago, but that isn’t stopping area grapplers from staying on the grind.
Waynesboro’s youth program had a big weekend in State College at the MAWA Western Region Tournament, held at C3 Sports Center. The Indians crowned five champions — Aven Beltz (41 pounds), Keyzlin Hollimon (65), Brady Myers (128), Caden Shockey (189), and Kenadee Shockey (190) — and advanced a total of 14 wrestlers to the MAWA Middle Atlantic Eastern National Championship on May 4-5 at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, Md.
Greencastle and Chambersburg each advanced three wrestlers to MAWA nationals, with the Blue Devils crowning a champ in Nathan Chambers (136).
At Messiah University, Waynesboro’s Eli Hind tried his hand at freestyle wrestling and took fourth in the 63-67 weight class. Hind has qualified for the PAUSAW State Championships, which will be held at Alvernia University on May 17-19.
