Some days you are the bug, other days you are the windshield. That was a good way to describe the weekend of racing for Greencastle driver DJ Myers, who competed in two Late Models races in two days at Path Valley Speedway. Friday evening’s “Night of Power” at Path Valley was a forgettable one for Myers, who crossed the finish line in 19th place. But things turned around on Saturday at the Austin Gelwicks Memorial, which saw Myers grind to Victory Lane over Lane Snook and Taylor Farlling. Myers worked his way into the Top 5 by mid-race, before he…

Three Chambersburg wrestlers — Gabe Nolan, Jaccob Stoner, and Frank Barrientos — had an opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages their sport has to offer: The US Marine Corps Nationals in Fargo, N.D. Also known as “Fargo Nationals,” the trio of Trojan grapplers combined to chalk up three wins against the toughest Freestyle/Greco-Roman competition in the nation. Stoner led the crew, racking up a 2-2 record at 190 pounds in the 16U Greco-Roman division. Nolan, at 132 pounds, went 1-2 in 16U Greco-Roman. Barrientos, a heavyweight competing in both the Junior Freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions, went 0-2…

At 39 years old, I don’t consider myself “old” like my kids do, but I’m not exactly young, either. My knees make cracking sounds when I walk, I groan when I stand up, and my back hurts every single day. Gray hairs are shooting up by the dozen, and even though I’m not much of a drinker, I still wake up with a hangover any time I stay up past 10:30 p.m. Long story short: I’m in no position to compete for a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Most runners my age can say the same…

Few drivers on the sprint car circuit have seen more PA Speedweek races than Lance Dewease. The National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, known as the “Fayetteville Flyer,” is a three-time points champion of Pennsylvania’s biggest week of racing with wins in 1997, 1999, and 2001. Dewease, 58, is still racing on a part-time schedule and this year he made his return to PA Speedweek, competing in six of nine races. Over that span, Dewease logged three Top 10 finishes, taking 10th in the 410 Sprints at Port Royal Speedway on July 3, seventh at Hagerstown Speedway on July 4,…

One of the easiest positions to play in sports is the armchair quarterback. That’s someone, usually in a seated position far away from the action, who has a vocal opinion or critique about the play on the field. We’ve all played this role, to varying degrees, at one time or another. But while many armchair QB for the pros, I find myself doing it for my kids’ teams. No, I’m not a “Karen” at the games, but on the drive home I do tend to bounce between positive reinforcement and long-winded suggestions of drills and other methods that could spur…

The chances of a high school athlete landing on a college roster are not favorable. Only about one in 13, or seven percent, get to compete at the collegiate level. That makes the odds of playing two college sports in the same season — like Greencastle-Antrim grad Timothy Ehko did for Geneva College this spring — slim to none. Ehko took on two technically-challenging sports, dividing his time between the Golden Tornadoes’ golf and track squads, and put his versatility on full display. As a golfer, he was a scoring member of Geneva’s team in the final four meets of…
