WAYNESBORO – The former Washington Township administrative buildings are set to be demolished in the upcoming months.

The structures that remain at the former location located on Welty Rd. in Waynesboro include the building that was used to house the Washington County Police Department and township meeting room, and the building that formerly housed the Administrative office.

The former Administrative building was constructed of several trailers that were put in place between 2005-2008 to serve as an office space. According to Washington Township Manager Vern Ashway, “due to the poor condition of the trailers, mold, water damage, floors sinking, etc., they will be torn down and disposed of.”

The public works department is currently utilizing the former police department/meeting room as storage space.

“Since the old office building is no longer in use for the public, it will be torn down and removed with no influence on the public,” said Ashway.

The new complex location, located at 11798 Buchanan Trail E. in Waynesboro, now houses the police department, administrative and planning and zoning departments, and offices for the tax collector, building inspector and code enforcement officer.

The Washington Township Municipal Complex held a grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, June 15, 2023. The complex is now fully providing services to the township.
