WAYNESBORO- For the second year, the American Legion Post and Auxiliary have organized and presented holiday gifts to veterans in local assisted living facilities. Salem Church collected personal care and toiletry items and donated them to this important project.

Monday, Dec. 10, 12 members of the Auxiliary and several Post members assembled the 46 gift packages which included the toiletries, a stocking with holiday treats, and a beautiful handmade lap afghan, courtesy of Joan Sanbower, Debbie Morrow, and Bev Adolini.

Thursday, Dec. 14 and Friday, Dec. 15, Sharon Kollman, Barb Hummer, Ray Hummer, and Ray Harbaugh made visits to The Leland, Hearthstone, Michaux Manor, and Quincy Home. At each stop, they enjoyed the conversations and memories of the Vets as they revisited their service and life’s civilian experience.

“We had the special opportunity to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to not just one, but TWO, WWII Vets who will turn 100 years old within the next two weeks,” said Sharon Kollman. “It was an honor to be able to celebrate with them and bring them some holiday cheer.”

The American Legion Post and Auxiliary would like to thank Salem Church for their generous donation of personal care and toiletry items, and Joan Sanbower, Debbie Morrow, and Bev Adolini for their beautiful handmade lap afghans. They would also like to thank all of the veterans who served our country, and wish them a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
