WAYNESBORO- The Waynesboro New Hope Shelter Inc. has announced the appointment of Mandi Howell as its new executive director. Howell is a native of the area and has a background in social work. She has worked with homeless populations in the past and is passionate about helping those in need.

“I am pleased to be serving those in need in the community where I was born, raised, and where my family still resides,” said Howell in a post on the New Hope Facebook page. “I look forward to utilizing my skills and experience to connect our residents to the resources needed and provide growth to the shelter.”

The Waynesboro New Hope Shelter was established in 1998 to provide temporary housing for the homeless from Franklin, Fulton, and Adams counties in Pennsylvania. The shelter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers food and lodging to men, women, and children. It operates year-round and serves about 150 people a year, one-third of whom are children. Every resident is provided encouragement and the tools necessary to find employment and permanent housing.

Howell is taking over for William Burcher, who has served as executive director of the shelter since 2018. Burcher is retiring after 15 years of service to the shelter.
