CHAMBERSBURG – With the forecast calling for high temperatures and a high heat index at the end of the week, Franklin County’s Chambersburg, Greencastle, and Tuscarora senior activity centers will be open for extended hours as cooling stations. The centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, and Friday, July 28.

The decision to extend the hours at these senior activity centers was made in order to provide a safe and cool environment for older Franklin County residents to escape the heat. The Chambersburg, Greencastle, and Tuscarora centers will offer a respite from the extreme temperatures.

In addition to these three centers, the county’s five other senior activity centers will continue to operate under their normal hours of operation. Older residents are encouraged to visit any of these locations to find relief from the heat.
