WAYNESBORO–A local company has manufactured a dredge that will be used to assist with the clearance of waterways.

According to DL George & Sons Manufacturing, dredging is done to remove solid material like gravel, sediment or sand from the bottom of waterways like lakes, rivers, canals, harbors and beaches and deposit it somewhere else.

Dredging is used to create enough clearance for a ship to pass through a waterway without hitting the bottom or to reshape land and beaches that have been washed away by storms.

The process has been made popular by trending TV shows, “Bering Sea Gold” or “Gold Rush Whitewater” where the dredges are used for mining gold.

It’s unclear what the DL George & Sons dredge will end up doing.
