CASCADE, Md. – The Fort Ritchie Community Center is offering a variety of health-focused events and services for the local community in the coming weeks.

On Thursday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to noon, and again on Tuesday, April 30 and Monday, May 9 from 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Washington County Health Department will be at the community center providing free blood pressure and pre-diabetes screenings. Lindsay from the health department will be on hand to offer these important health checks.

Tabitha’s Table, a food pantry located in Smithsburg, Md., will be distributing food items from their pantry at the community center on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. until supplies last. The next distribution will be on May 14. This is an opportunity for community members in need to access essential food items.

Chair Fit, a chair-based exercise class, is held every Thursday at 10 a.m. at the community center. These exercises are designed to improve mobility by increasing blood flow and lubricating joints, making them beneficial for those recovering from illness or with mobility challenges.

On the last Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the community center will host a mobile chair massage service with massage therapist Miranda Tyler. Clients can pay by the minute for a 10, 15, or 20-minute chair massage on a walk-in basis, and must sign a liability form before receiving the service.

Finally, the community center will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, May 15 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Hospital patients rely on blood donations to receive the lifesaving treatments they need, and the Red Cross encourages community members to consider donating blood to help meet this critical demand.

The Fort Ritchie Community Center is located at 14421 Lake Royer Drive in Cascade, Md. For more information about these and other upcoming events, visit their website at fortritchiecommunitycenter.org or call 301-241-5085.
