Cory Myers has won of plenty of races at Path Valley Speedway this season, but with $1,000 up for grabs, the Fayetteville driver had plenty of motivation to wrap up his 2024 racing schedule with a victory. Myers did just that at Bull Ring Nationals on Saturday, topping the 18-car field in the 30-lap 270 Sprints feature to earn a trip to Victory Lane. It was a strong end to the fall for Myers, who ran to a second-place finish in the points standings behind only his brother: Craig Myers of Chambersburg. Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn finished third in the 270…

It’s been a fun regular season for youth football teams in the LocalNews coverage area, but now it’s time to play for keeps. The postseason is set to kick off — this weekend for the Keystone Youth Football and Cheerleading League and next weekend for the CFA Youth Football League — and area squads are eager to prove how much they’ve learned from their seasons on the field. Lower-seeded teams in the KYFCL will be locking horns in win-or-go-home games on Saturday and Sunday for the right to play the top teams in the league. The Hamilton Jaguars will be…

One by one, squads are dropping from the postseason until only the best teams remain. This is certainly the case in LocalNews country, where several area programs saw their seasons come to an end last week. But there are two teams that have survived the chaos of the opening playoff rounds. For the second-straight season, Greencastle-Antrim’s girls volleyball squad has advanced to the District 3-3A semifinal round and will be playing for a berth in the championship match on Thursday night. North Hagerstown’s undefeated run on the boys soccer pitch came to an end with a 0-0 (2-0 PKs) loss…

It’s been a few weeks since the Chicago Marathon ran its course and still that world-record time — 2:09:56 — is etched into my running mind, and it’s blinking. The way Kenya’s Ruth Chepng’etich stormed to her third win in four years at Chicago, becoming the first female to break the 2:11 and 2:10 barriers, is the stuff that legends — and skeptics — are made of. Chepng’etich’s effort shattered the record of Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa, who ran a 2:11:53 at the 2023 Berlin Marathon. Sifan Hassan’s third-best time of 2:13:44 almost seems pedestrian at this point. It’s natural to…

Now it’s time for the Blue Devils, seeded No. 1 in the District 3-3A Tournament, to prove their worth on the postseason stage. We’ve selected this pressure-packed elimination contest as our Match of the Week. Two Greencastle drivers — Transtan Stoner and Bradyn Kuhn — secured second-place finishes at Path Valley Speedway on Saturday in the final points racing program of the season. Stoner finished second in the 19-car field in the Wingless Super Sportsman feature behind Sam Leonard. Kuhn had a solid night in the 270 Sprints, going from ninth to second in a heat race before driving from third to second in the main event, finishing behind Jason Houtz. Malachi Doyle, of Chambersburg, landed a fourth-place finish in the Strictly Stocks feature. With Path Valley’s points race reaching its conclusion, there are plenty…

The postseason is about to kick off in Pennsylvania, and we’ve counted at least six Franklin County teams that have qualified for the District 3 dance. Girls volleyball has the most local playoff entrants, as Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Greencastle-Antrim will all be playing win-or-go-home contests this week. The girls soccer teams from Chambersbug and Greencastle will be competing at districts, as will the Waynesboro boys soccer team. The individual postseason is already underway in Maryland, with local golfers and cross country runners taking center stage. South Hagerstown golfer Luke Leisinger shot an 81 to win the WCPS Golf Tournament last…

To say Chambersburg and Cumberland Valley’s football teams were coming from different places leading into Friday’s game at Chapman Field would be an understatement. The Trojans had just suffered a disappointing loss to Altoona, the last-place team in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division. The Eagles, on the other hand, were riding high off one of the biggest upsets of the season with a win over Harrisburg. Not surprisingly, Cumberland Valley was the odds-on favorite for Friday’s game, but it was Chambersburg that pulled off the upset victory, with the Trojans defense forcing four turnovers in a 17-10 win over the Eagles.…
