READING, Pa. — The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum will mark a major milestone this weekend as it hosts the 35th Annual World War II Weekend, a nationally recognized living history event that draws thousands of visitors each year.
The three-day event, scheduled for June 5–7, brings history to life through immersive programming that honors the legacy of World War II and those who served. Held annually on the first full weekend in June, WWII Weekend has grown over more than three decades into one of the premier events of its kind in the country.
Visitors can expect a wide range of educational and interactive experiences, including vintage aircraft displays and flight demonstrations, military vehicle exhibits, and reenactments depicting both combat and homefront life. Organizers emphasize the importance of preserving firsthand accounts, with veterans and guest speakers sharing personal stories throughout the weekend.
The event also features large-scale battle reenactments, offering audiences a dynamic look at wartime strategy and conditions. In addition, attendees can explore exhibits highlighting the “Homefront” experience, showcasing how civilians contributed to the war effort.
Beyond historical programming, WWII Weekend incorporates period entertainment with live big band music and swing dancing, creating an atmosphere reflective of the 1940s era. Vendors and demonstrators will also be on-site, offering historically themed goods and educational displays.
Main event parking will be available at the Reading Fairgrounds, located at 1216 Hilltop Road in Leesport, with gates opening at 8:30 a.m. each day. Organizers encourage early arrival due to the event’s popularity and high attendance.
The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum says the annual gathering continues to serve as both a tribute and an educational opportunity, ensuring that the stories and sacrifices of World War II remain accessible to future generations.
