Chambersburg Ballet to stage ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at Capitol Theatre

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Chambersburg Ballet will conclude its 2025–2026 season with a new production of “Sleeping Beauty” on June 5 and 6 at the Capitol Theatre. Under the artistic direction of Brian Grant, this beloved classical ballet combines beautiful dancing, magical costumes and the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in an experience for audiences of all ages.

Based on the classic fairy tale, “Sleeping Beauty” tells the story of Princess Aurora, whose christening celebration is interrupted by the wicked fairy Carabosse after she is deliberately excluded from the festivities. Seeking revenge, Carabosse curses the infant princess, declaring that Aurora will prick her finger on a spindle and die on her 18th birthday. The Lilac Fairy intervenes, softening the curse so that Aurora will instead fall into a deep sleep, awaiting the kiss of a prince to awaken her.

The production features more than 50 dancers, ranging from young children making their stage debuts to accomplished guest artists. Professional guest artist Dara Schlesinger, a former dancer with Dayton Ballet and Mareck Dance and a graduate of Point Park University, performs the title role of Princess Aurora. Christopher Lingner, a former soloist with Cincinnati Ballet and former principal dancer with Ballet Virginia and Twin Cities Ballet, appears as Prince Phillip.

Performances will take place June 5 and 6 at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Chambersburg. For tickets and additional information, visit chambersburgballet.org.

Season sponsors include WellSpan Health, APAL Solutions, Franklin Orthodontics, Volvo Construction Equipment, Valley-Agency Company, Patriot Federal Credit Union, and F&M Trust. Lodging sponsors include the Hanks Family, the Wilson Family, the Kaczmarek Family, and Wanda Hutchings.

The Chambersburg Ballet provides classical ballet instruction and related disciplines to students ages 3 and up and operates a regional performing dance company for dancers ages 10 through adult. The Chambersburg Ballet Guild is a nonprofit organization that operates both the school and the performing company, enriching the cultural life of the region through high-quality dance education and performance opportunities.
