The Arturo O’Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Quintet headlined The Institute’s annual Jazz Fest in 2022. The Institute was recently awarded a $5,000 Creative Sector Flex Fund grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts that will be used to support increased arts programming in outdoor settings.

WAYNESBORO—The Institute recently received a $5,000 award from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, administered by The Cultural Alliance of York County. The grant is part of a new initiative, the Creative Sector Flex Fund, which supports arts programming by nonprofit organizations.

“We are delighted to receive this award for our proposal, Arts in the Open,” said Tracy Holliday, Institute executive director. “These funds will support The Institute’s efforts to provide a variety of arts programming in beautiful outdoor settings.”

The Institute has a long history of arts programming, including its annual jazz festival (this year will mark 33 years for the festival), plus theater-in-the-park events like Shakespeare and Poe, a week-long summer art camp, live musical entertainment at community events like Earth Celebration Day and Youth Fest, and other arts-related programs and events.

A nonprofit organization, The Institute provides programming in environmental education and cultural history for area school children, plus workshops, lectures, programs and community events for people of all ages.

The Institute purchased a 40-acre rural property in Washington Township and work is underway to create a nature education center for both students and the greater Waynesboro community.
