FROSTBURG, MD- Frostburg State University’s Mountain City Traditional Arts will host a free Friday afternoon Summer Concert Series for children and families, according to a recent announcement.

The events will kick off on June 23 and run through Aug. 4, with all events taking place at 1 p.m. The acoustic vocal group, Snowday, will start the fun on June 23.

Snowday is an a cappella and vocal music group based out of Montgomery County, Md., that has toured the U.S. and performed internationally. Collectively, group members use vocal music to explore some of the challenges of growing up, including friendship, self-esteem and finding confidence.

On June 30, the Appalachian folk group, the Hominy Mamas, will travel all the way from East Tennessee to use stories and songs to weave together an interactive performance. Multi-instrumentalists, the musical duo plays everything from guitar and banjo to washboard and kazoo.

The Summer Concert Series is part of Frostburg State University’s Mountain City Traditional Arts, which is dedicated to the education, sales, documentation, and perpetuation of regional art and cultural heritage. The university’s Performing Arts Center showcases major performances in ballet, dance, musicals, plays, vocal and instrumental performances from professional to student performers.

All events are free and open to the public, and will take place at Frostburg State University’s Performing Arts Center. For those who cannot attend in-person, the university’s Department of Music will also be streaming the concerts online.
