Candidate Packets Now Available to Run for Local Office

CHAMBERSBURG—Franklin County residents who wish to run for public office take note: Candidate packets are now available for pick-up in the Franklin County Commissioners’ Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  

Offices up for election this year include County Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Controller, Coroner, District Attorney, Prothonotary, Register & Recorder, Sheriff, Magisterial District Judges #39-2-01, #39-3-02, #39-3-05 and #39-3-06, Township Supervisors, Auditors, Councilpersons and School Directors.

The first day to circulate a nomination petition to have a name placed on the Municipal Primary ballot is February 14 and the last day to file a petition with the Commissioners’ Office for any of these local offices is March 7th at 4:30 p.m.  Those candidates that file a nomination petition by the deadline will have their name placed on the May 16, 2023 Municipal Primary ballot.

The County’s website (www.franklincountypa.gov – Voter & Election Information/ Candidate Election Information) includes a copy of the Information for Candidates handout which gives detailed instructions on running for public office, including the number of signatures required for each office as well as filing fees.  Information on qualifications, duties and responsibilities of various elected offices can be found at www.NewPA.com under Local Government – Publications & Documents – Library.

The Commissioners’ Office is located in the Franklin County Administration Building, 272 N. Second St., Chambersburg.
