CHAMBERSBURG –  Orchard Drive in Chambersburg will be closed at the railroad crossing near Wayne Avenue/PA 316 for a maintenance project beginning sometime Monday, May 23.

Hundreds of cars, tractor-trailers and school buses use this railroad crossing every day. CSX Railroad has not indicated how long the closing might last.
Federal regulations allow railroads to close local streets to accomplish maintenance projects.

The Borough has suggested a detour plan to include Kriner Road in Guilford Township as the main route to avoid this area.

Access to all businesses on Orchard Drive will remain open during construction. Customers, tractor-trailers, and employees may be forced to use different routes to avoid the closed railroad crossing. For the 1200-1300 block of Orchard Drive access remains from Wayne Avenue (PA 316).
For the 1400-1600 blocks of Orchard Drive access remains from either S. Main Street (U.S. 11) or Kriner Road & Nitterhouse Drive.
Impacted businesses include Ventura Foods, Results Fitness, Relax Lounge, The Orchards, WIKA Mobile, Nursery Supplies, Dollar General, Spicher’s Appliances, RISE Medical Dispensary, The Nutrition Center, Summit Occupational Health, Jenni Nails & Spa, Caliber Collision, and others. All will remain accessible via Orchard Drive from S. Main Street. The following businesses will only be accessible from Wayne Avenue: Orrstown Bank, Rain Tunnel Car Wash, and Jiffy Lube.
