NEWVILLE – The Waynesboro varsity boys’ basketball team finished a season sweep of Big Spring on Tuesday night with a 60-36 victory for the Indians 11th win of the season.
The Bulldogs, who lost to the Tribe 68-45 in Waynesboro on Dec. 17, kept the game close throughout the first half as Waynesboro led 14-9 after the first quarter and 27-19 at halftime.
The Indians began to put some distance between the teams in the second half, outscoring Big Spring 19-11 in the third quarter to take a 46-29 lead into the fourth period.
Waynesboro outrebounded Big Spring 38-25 and forced 14 Bulldogs turnovers. The Indians committed 10 turnovers in the game. They were also helped by 14 assists, including seven by Ryan Shaffer.
Reese Cover scored 14 points to lead Waynesboro in scoring. He also had a team-high seven rebounds, including six on the defensive end. Shaffer added 11 points and had four rebounds. Jaylon Bean recorded five rebounds.
Next up for the Indians is West Perry on Friday in Waynesboro’s first home game since Jan. 7.
A makeup game against Shippensburg has been scheduled for Saturday at Shippensburg. The Indians will host the Greyhounds on Feb. 4.
Waynesboro will host Northern York next Tuesday and Boiling Springs on Friday, Jan. 28.
