HARRISBURG –Awards of more than $2.5 million in Schools-to-Work grants have been awarded to 12 Pennsylvania programs designed to prepare students for the workforce through classroom training, workplace visits, internships, apprenticeships, mentorships, employment opportunities, job shadowing, externships and more. “The Schools-to-Work grants provide students with real-world learning opportunities including apprenticeships and internships that will help build solid career paths to employment or secondary education,” said Gov. HARRISBURG ­– The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) announced a state trooper based in Franklin County is accused of assaulting a motorist during an arrest earlier this year. The criminal complaint filed by the PSP Internal Affairs Division alleges that Israel T. Moore used his right leg to deliver two strikes to the upper torso of a motorist following a vehicle pursuit on the evening of Feb. 13. Another trooper was handcuffing the motorist at the time. WAYNESBORO—The report of a domestic violence incident led to the closure of the 200 block of North Potomac Street for several hours Tuesday morning. According to Waynesboro Police, officers were called out at 7:17 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, to 223 N. Potomac St. for a report of domestic violence incident with an armed subject in the residence. All resident occupants had evacuated leaving the subject alone within the residence, according to a police report. The scholarships and their winners for 2022-2023 are: Thompson Memorial Scholarship: Tristin Heyward and Kayla Thompson. Thompson Scholarships are offered to two applicants each year who are qualified academically, exhibit service to others, and need financial help in completing a four-year collegiate degree. HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) has released its preliminary employment situation report for April 2022. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point over the month to 4.8 percent in April. The U.S. unemployment rate was unchanged over the month, remaining at 3.6 percent. HERSHEY – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Bureau of Training and Education announced expanded opportunities in law enforcement education to children between the ages of 15 and 18. Applications are now being accepted for The Hill Impact Program, which has expanded to two locations in Pennsylvania. The 14-week program will run simultaneously at the PSP Academy in Hershey and the PSP Southwest Training Center in Greensburg.
