Chambersburg has formed a varsity girls wrestling squad for this winter, and if the results from last weekend’s preseason Battle of the Braids tournament serve as any indication, the Trojans are in for a big campaign.
Chambersburg crowned four champions, three high schoolers and one junior high wrestler, at the girls-only tourney, which was hosted by West Perry.
Jessica Li (106), Reagan Evans (130), and Aulana Stanton (170) put on a show in the high school bracket, going a combined 8-0 with eight falls. Makenzie Miller posted a 2-1 record at 155 pounds.
Mirra Harabaugh highlighted the Trojans’ junior high squad by winning the 165-pound bracket with a 3-0 record, pinning two of her opponents along the way.
Elsewhere, in Mechanicsburg, the Primus Rapid Fire tournament proved to be a fine tuneup event for Waynesboro youth wrestler Ace Beltz. Competing in the 10U division, Beltz cruised through four round-robin bouts to win his bracket, allowing just one point.
High school wrestling season kicks off next week, while the youth will move on to the dual and tournament season.
