There’s nothing easy about winning on the auto racing circuit, but the path to Victory Lane can be made easier by properly executing the three phases of Race Day: The qualifying round, heat race and feature race.
Devin Friese understood the assignment and checked all three boxes while competing in the Masters Legends division at BAPS Motor Speedway on Friday and Saturday. The Chambersburg driver kicked off his weekend by running the second-fastest time in qualifying, then followed up by winning his heat race. Those efforts set Friese up for a second-starting position in Saturday’s 25-lap feature.
Friese handled the rest, cruising to the feature win over Jeremy Ott and Michael King.
Another driver with the Friese surname, Colton Friese of Spring Run, raced to victory in the Semi-Pro Legends race. He secured the win over Sierra Davenport and Greencastle’s Logan Jones, who drove from fifth to third.
Closer to home, at Path Valley Speedway, the sibling rivalry between Fayetteville’s Cory Myers and Chambersburg’s Craig Myers continued in the 270 Sprints feature, with Cory winning the race and Craig finishing in third.
The 600 Sprints at Path Valley saw Tanner Pressley secure the top spot over Hagerstown’s Kameron Morral and Fayetteville’s Cole Dewease. Kevin Bard, of Chambersburg, took fifth in the Thunder Cars feature, while Hagerstown’s Wes Bonebrake landed 10th in the Limited Late Models race.
Path Valley’s points races have concluded in the Late Models and Modifieds divisions. Michael Walls, of St. Thomas, won the Late Models division over Greencastle’s DJ Myers and Chambersburg’s Randy Burkholder. The Modifieds division was conquered by Darin Hoover, with Chambersburg’s Alyssa Rowe and Kirk Baker finishing second and third, respectively.
Finally, the World of Outlaws visited Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night, and Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease was part of the program, taking ninth in the B Main of the 410 Sprints.
Below is a speedway-by-speedway, feature-by-feature, look at how area drivers performed last weekend:
