CHAMBERSBURG – United Way of Franklin County will kick off its annual community campaign, “Ignite Giving,” on Sept. 20. This year’s campaign emphasizes the power of community engagement and philanthropy to spark lasting change and hope for a brighter future.

The campaign kickoff will be held at The Eugene C Clark Jr. Community Center (Chambersburg Recreation Center), beginning at noon. The event will bring together community leaders, local organizations and residents to celebrate the spirit of giving and rally support for the campaign’s goals. Registration for the event is available at www.uwfcpa.org/events .

“Our theme, ‘Ignite Giving,’ represents our commitment to fueling positive change by bringing community together,” said Amy Hicks, county United Way executive director. “We believe that by igniting the spirit of generosity across our community, we can address pressing needs and create lasting impact. We’re excited to launch this year’s campaign and engage in new and inspiring ways.”

Contributions will be directed towards initiatives that support education, financial stability and healthy living, with a focus on empowering individuals and strengthening families.

The kickoff event will feature leaders from three programs that are working to strengthen literacy in local communities. They include:

  • Jessica Bontrager, volunteer coordinator for Imagination Library at Fendrick Library, who will speak about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and how librarians are working to ensure that young children have access to books at home;
  • Dr. Kimberly Eaton, executive director of Waynesboro Area YMCA, who will talk about how Waynesboro YMCA created an emphasis on reading this summer to get school age students excited about books;
  • And Angela Wilt, adult education program coordinator for LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council, who will talk about literacy issues that adults in our community face and the work the program does to promote literacy as a building block for financial stability and better health.
