CARLISLE – Scores were high from top to bottom in the most recent Mid-Penn Colonial Division varsity golf match held at Eagles Crossing.

And, as has been the case for the entire season, Waynesboro’s Tyler Fortney entered the clubhouse with the best overall score. Fortney, the anchor for head coach Ryan Henderson’s squad, is turning in a memorable senior season. He shot 73 to lead Waynesboro to a 5-1 record on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

It’s taking a while for the other three scorers to establish the needed consistency to translate into a run at a division championship. Northern continues to lead the division despite a third-place finish. The Polar Bears finished with a score of 357, 13 strokes behind Waynesboro. Shippensburg ran the table and remained in second place. Gettysburg, who carded a collective 364, is one match ahead of Waynesboro with a 19-11 record.

Shippensburg, which completed the 18 holes with a score of 333, boasted three top-four finishers. Kaydee Beckenbaugh was runner-up to Fortney with 78. Jack Johnson carded 82, while Ben Horgos finished In a three-way tie for fourth with 83.

Waynesboro’s second, third, and fourth scorers were Fari Parks, Caiden Shacreaw and Landon Crable.

The division is down to its final two matches of the season, to be followed by the postseason starting with the Mid-Penn Conference tournament. The next scheduled competition is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Chambersburg Country Club hosted by Shippensburg. The season finale is Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Great Cove Golf Club in Mercersburg and hosted by James Buchanan.
