It was a tale of two halves for the Greencastle-Antrim football team on Friday, but luckily for the Blue Devils, that tale had a happy ending in the team’s 28-26 win over Middletown.
Devin McCauley’s Greencastle squad couldn’t have played much better in the first half of its Mid-Penn Colonial Division contest, with the team amassing a 28-6 halftime lead. The second half, however, belonged to Middletown, which outscored the Blue Devils 20-0 to make them sweat out the victory.
By the time the dust settled at Middletown’s War Memorial Field, it was Greencastle still standing as a two-point victor.
Blue Devils wide receiver Carter McCauley hauled in two TD passes from QB Sean Marshall, who added a couple of scoring runs of his own, to put Greencastle (1-2, 1-1 Colonial) up big.
Middletown (1-2, 0-2 Colonial) chipped away in the second half with scoring runs in the third and fourth quarters before returning an interception for a TD to pull within two points of the Blue Devils, 28-26. The Blue Raiders couldn’t make that final push, though, as Greencastle’s Noah Shifflett sealed the game with an interception.
McCauley finished with five catches for 61 yards to go along with his two TDs, while Blake Reuter led the Blue Devils rushing attack with 18 carries for 81 yards. Marshall completed 9 of 17 passes for 122 yards, two TDs, and an interception.
Greencastle will try to go on a winning streak on Friday, when it hosts East Pennsboro (1-2, 1-1 Colonial), a team coming off a 35-13 win over Milton Hershey.
Shippensburg 28, Waynesboro 21
Shippensburg used a strong running game — spearheaded by Ja’Nye Statum’s 165-yard effort — to outlast Waynesboro in Friday’s Mid-Penn Keystone Division clash.
Statum’s big night opened up opportunities for other Greyhound runners, including Mark Carothers, who put Shippensburg 7-0 with a 22-yard scoring dash. Waynesboro responded to tie the game with an 11-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by a three-yard burst from Ethan Allredge.
The Indians (2-1, 1-1 Keystone) kept their momentum going and stopped Shippensburg on the ensuing drive. After getting the ball back, Waynesboro marched 60 yards in six plays for the go-ahead score. Indians’ Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt fueled the drive with a 33-yard pass to Keyan Mobley, before he completed the drive with a five-yard TD run to put his team ahead 13-7.
Late in the second quarter, however, Shippensburg stopped a fake punt play before eventually pulling ahead 14-13 on a five-yard scoring run from Brady Maciejewski.
Shippensburg (3-0, 2-0 Keystone) and Waynesboro exchanged TDs in the third quarter, with the Hounds taking a 21-13 lead on a three-yard run from Carothers before the Indians tied the game back up on a four-yard scoring plunge from Nathan Nolan.
With the game knotted up at 21-21 in the fourth quarter, Maciejewski came up with the game-winning score for Ship when he crossed the goal line for a one-yard TD run.
The Indians will look to rebound on Friday, when they hit the road for a game at Red Land (0-3), a team coming off a 54-12 loss to Gettysburg.
Bishop McDevitt 40, Chambersburg 3
It took a few quarters for star-studded Bishop McDevitt to get rolling, but the Crusaders eventually found their rhythm in Friday’s game at Chambersburg.
The Crusaders (2-1, 1-1 Commonwealth) struggled to move the ball early, but took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. Chambersburg tied the game up with a 41-yard field goal from Trever Luther, before Bishop McDevitt regained control with a pair of TDs to take a 16-3 halftime lead.
The Crusaders put the game away in the second half, outscoring the Trojans 24-0 over the final two quarters.
Chambersburg (1-2, 0-2 Commonwealth) was led by the efforts of Imari Watson, who totaled 52 yards on 10 carries.

The second-quarter scoring flurry continued with Urschel plowing in from eight yards out to cut North Hagerstown’s lead to one point, 14-13, before the Hubs struck again before halftime, this time with a two-yard run from Jackson. The TD from Jackson had the Hubs leading 20-13 at halftime.

With his team trailing the Knights by a 15-13 score, Davis rumbled 78 yards down the left sideline for the game-winning score.
It was a wild ending to a game that saw the Rebels come all the way back from a 15-0 deficit. South Hagerstown began its comeback late in the second quarter, when Cahauri Alford pulled in a short pass from Brayden Sisk and broke free for an 85-yard score to cut Century’s lead to 15-7 at halftime.
