CHAMBERSBURG — The Franklin County Area Agency on Aging is responding to rising temperatures by extending the hours of its senior activity centers in Chambersburg, Greencastle and Tuscarora. On Wednesday, Aug. 28, these centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. as designated cooling stations for local residents aged 60 and older. This initiative aims to provide a safe and comfortable environment for seniors to escape the extreme heat.

In addition to the extended hours at these three locations, older residents are also welcome to visit the county’s five other senior activity centers, which will maintain their regular hours of operation. This comprehensive approach ensures that seniors have access to relief from the heat across the county.

For those seeking more information on specific locations and their hours, the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging encourages residents to visit their website or contact them directly at (717) 263-2153.

The Franklin County Commissioners support this initiative, highlighting the importance of community resources during periods of extreme weather. As temperatures soar, it is crucial for seniors to stay hydrated and find ways to keep cool to prevent heat-related illnesses.
