At least five regional agencies had celebrating in mind Tuesday during National Night Out events, featuring area law enforcement units, K-9 officers, helicopter landings, public safety demonstrations and entertainment of all kinds.
These events also all offered free refreshments, and some included games and raffle prizes as well. The annual event is an opportunity to get to know about the public safety agencies serving the community, meeting neighbors and having fun.
Here were events held in the area:
Chambersburg Borough Police Department, festivities were held from 4 to 7 p.m. in Memorial Park with K-9 demonstrations and a helicopter landing at 6-6:15. The Chambersburg Borough Fire Department was on hand, as were WellSpan Health, Homeless Matters, Target, Little Daisy’s Closet, Keystone Health, LifeHouse Church, The Chambersburg Community Police Foundation, Chick-Fil-A, the Mental Health Association and more. Visitors could play a round of cornhole and pick up some swag from the community groups.
Washington Township Police Department, events were held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lowe’s parking lot. Food trucks, live music and games were offered for all ages. The medical helicopter was on hand for an up-close and personal tour. Ricky Rudd’s #10 Tide Short Track Racecar also was on display, thanks to D.L. George and Sons. And the event had representatives of the Washington Township supervisors, Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue, Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department, Franklin County Coroner’s office, Franklin County Children’s Advocacy Center and Franklin County District Attorney’s office. The Buttonwood Nature Center will be represented as will Lowe’s, Walmart, Health Communities Partnership, the U.S. Army and ABATE Monterey Pass Chapter.
Waynesboro Police Department, festivities went from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park with K-9 demonstrations, food, drinks and ice cream along with representation from many agencies. Those included both the Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department, the U.S. Department of Forestry, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Keystone Health, Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, ABATE Monterey Pass Chapter and the Franklin County Coroner. State Sen. Doug Mastriano (R) was represented, as was U.S. Rep. Paul Schemel (R). Also joining the event were the Letterkenny Army Depot, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Waynesboro Community and Human Services, Children’s Advocacy Center and other health and human services agencies. The Antietam Humane Society was on hand, as was the New Hope Shelter and YMCA.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland, activities ran from 5 to 8 p.m. at Byron Memorial Park, Park Road, Williamsport, Md. People were invited to come and meet first responders and to enjoy food, games, prizes, a look at emergency vehicles and more. The event was planned to be both fun and educational.
Shippensburg Police Foundation, festivities were held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Shippensburg Police Department parking lot, 60 W. Burd St. Free activities included fingerprinting, snacks, drinks, public safety demonstrations and children’s activities.
