CHAMBERSBURG- While families are in the midst of vacations, and kids are enjoying a long break from studies, United Way of Franklin County is preparing for Stuff The Bus, their annual school supply drive, which will help ensure that kids in Franklin County schools have the supplies they need in the fall. The event will begin on July 15th , providing multiple locations for school supply collection until early August, when schools prepare to reopen. The event provides much needed supplies to 5 districts in Franklin County. The event is sponsored this year by Patriot Federal Credit Union and Herbruck’s Blue Springs.
United Way makes supporting school supplies easy by providing 5 ways to give. Monetary contributions can be mailed by check or through the website at www.uwfcpa.org and supports purchase of school supplies. Supplies may also be delivered to one of multiple locations throughout the County or at the office of United Way of Franklin County at 182 S. Second Street in Chambersburg. A listing of collection sites is available at https://www.uwfcpa.org/stuff-the-bus.
United Way of Franklin County has an online registry at Target.com, allowing donors to select items online and designate to a local school district of their choosing by writing the name of the district in the “Gift Message” at checkout. In addition, United Way of Franklin County will be attending several events over the summer to collect supplies. Already planned are Fannettsburg Fest on July 13, and Waynesboro YMCA on July 17, with more locations in the works. Online signups are available for churches, clubs or teams that may want to collect as well, at https://www.uwfcpa.org/stuff-the-bus.
Supplies that are most needed in the schools include headphones and earbuds, colored printer paper, folders, binders, and composition books. Traditional classroom favorites also include crayons, pencils and pens, pencil cases, glue, facial tissues, hand sanitizer, as well as jump ropes and playground balls.
United Way of Franklin County is a local non-profit organization dating back to 1942 in Chambersburg and 1961 in Waynesboro, started by community leaders as a Community Chest. The idea at the time was to bring together people and resources to address the pressing issues and help people locally. That hasn’t changed. United Way of Franklin County brings together people—community members, business and industry, local government, and community leadership to identify the needs across Franklin County and to connect solutions. United Way of Franklin County works to improve quality of lives by mobilizing the caring power of Franklin County communities.
