Seemingly without fail, Mother Nature has found a way to interfere with just about every sprint car racing weekend this spring.

But local drivers and the speedways they perform on have been trying to maintain a sunny outlook this season, making the most out of the few clear-skied outings they’ve had.

We’ve counted just a handful of racing programs over the past two weeks, but those races have given us a glimpse at the excitement that could be in store for us once the weather decides to cooperate.

Hagerstown Speedway has had to cancel three of its last four programs, but it was able to put on a four-feature program on May 18 that was highlighted by sharp driving from area drivers. Hagerstown’s Keith Reed conquered the 17-car field in the Pure Stocks feature, while Mason Booze, of Greencastle, as a seventh-place finisher in the Crate Late Model Sportsman race. The Late Model Sportsman race saw Hagerstown’s Wesley Bonebrake take ninth place.

Path Valley Speedway was off for Memorial Day Weekend, but on the previous weekend, the quarter-mile banked-clay oval made some history, hosting the World of Outlaws for the first time. The WoO Late Models race saw Bobby Pierce take the win over Mason Zeigler and Brandon Sheppard.

Hagerstown’s Dylan Shatzer finished sixth in the 305 Sprints at BAPS Motor Speedway, while Greencastle’s DJ Myers added a sixth-place finish of his own in the Limited Late Models at Port Royal.

Finally, Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn and his MBK Motorsports team handled the weather issues by hauling out to a different speedway altogether. On Friday, Kuhn visited Clinton County Speedway and was moving forward in the 270 Sprints all night. He moved from ninth to second in his heat race, before advancing from 10th to fourth in the feature.

Below is a speedway-by-speedway look at how local drivers have performed in recent weeks:
