Ty Holsopple, Shippensburg University Men's Basketball

Chambersburg grad and Shippensburg University senior basketball player Ty Holsopple doesn’t always get on the floor for the Raiders, but after playing the game of his life, he will be known as the man who led his team in scoring on the highest-scoring night in school history.

Checking in for 12 minutes of playing time in a game against Cheyney on Jan. 31, Holsopple erupted for a team-high 20 points as the Raiders tied a school record for points scored in a 116-71 win. It was the first time Shippensburg had scored 116 points since a 1976 game against Messiah.

In College Corner this week, we’ll take a closer at the efforts of Holsopple and other Chambersburg-based athletes competing at the collegiate level. We’ve got a lot to cover this month with updates on 86 individual athletes, starting with those currently competing in the winter sports season. We will also tie up loose ends from the fall sports season, and take a peek forward to the spring.

Next month we will shift our focus to Waynesboro, and then Greencastle-Antrim, before circling back to Chambersburg. Additions for College Corner can be submitted to Andy Sandrik via email at [email protected].

He responded to the loss with three straight wins in the wrestlebacks over Ohio Wesleyan’s Jimmy Bauman (medical forfeit), PSU Behrend’s Jashad Bumpers (fall in 2:33), and Alfred State’s Jaime Jarquin (fall in 1:11).
