EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams ended the season in style on Tuesday.

Not only did the teams get a chance to swim in a university pool at Mount St. Mary’s, they both clinched Mid-Penn Colonial Division championships. The boys won 139-37; the Maidens won 123-54,

It was the second straight season the girls won a division crown. It’s the first title for the Indians.

The depth of both squads makes it difficult for opposing teams. Add that to some outstanding individual talent and performances, and you have the recipe for winning.

Waynesboro had eight winners in the boys’ meet, including two by Brenner McIlquham. McIlquham won the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle event.

Will Yost (200 freestyle), Tank Beneict (1-meter diving), Cello Dimino (100 butterfly), Andrew Bryan (400 freestyle), JB Bonner (100 backstroke) and Owen Shockey (100 breaststroke) also won.

Waynesboro captured wins in all three relay events.

Meanwhile, the Maidens still have not tasted defeat in conference competition. Both teams improved to 8-0 on the season, and next up on the schedule is the postseason. Cumberland Valley High School will host the Mid-Penn Conference Championships on Feb. 9 and 10.

The Maidens won seven of 11 events, including all three relays.

In the individual events, Maddy Stoops won the 200 freestyle. Belle Hess was the winner of the 50 freestyle. Camryn Bonner was the high scorer in the 1-meter diving event, while Eve Hess won the 100 butterfly and Eve Phillips took first in the 100 freestyle.
