CHAMBERSBURG- The Borough of Chambersburg would like to remind residents and business owners that local law requires snow and ice to be removed from sidewalks along the street within 24 hours after the end of a winter storm.

Please be advised that often Borough representatives will inspect all sidewalks within street rights-of-way in the Borough and issue tickets to property owners that failed to clear sidewalks of snow and ice.

A first offense ticket includes a fine of $50. A second offense ticket, occurring within 12 months of the first offense, includes a fine of $100. Failure to pay the fine will result in charges being filed with the Magisterial District Judge.

It is important to note that inspections will be conducted for sidewalks within street rights-of-way in the Borough only. If you are uncertain where those streets are located, please visit the Borough website at http://www.chambersburgpa.gov. From the front page, use the Maps link and then select the Street Map of Chambersburg link. If you have any questions, please contact Chuck Nipe, Director of Public Works, at 717-251-2496 or [email protected].
