CHAMBERSBURG– WellSpan Health is expanding its medical residency programs across the health system in South Central Pennsylvania, with WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital recently receiving approval to launch a family medicine residency program, set to welcome its first medical residents in 2025. The program received full approval to proceed from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in October. It joins WellSpan York Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as accredited teaching hospitals serving the region.

“We are committed to transforming the health of the communities we serve while educating the next generation of medical providers,” said Niki Hinckle, senior vice president of WellSpan Health’s West Region. “Our health system is reimagining the ways in which we provide high-quality care with innovative programs and procedures paving the way for an educational environment that we know will be appealing to these residents.”

WellSpan Family Medicine residents undergo a balanced approach of both an educationally intensive curriculum as well as hands-on training and service in a variety of patient care areas. In this new residency program in Franklin County, residents will also participate in clinical rotations with Keystone Health physicians and providers at both WellSpan Health and Keystone Health care locations.

The new program will compliment others across the health system, including those in York and Lebanon. The current programs encompass a number of specialties including:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Psychiatry
  • Surgery
  • Emergency medicine
  • Internal medicine
  • Family medicine
  • Pharmacy
