WAYNESBORO- Bob Thomas presented to WASHS 9th grade Honor Civics about America 250.

America 250 is a nationwide initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. It is a nonpartisan effort to engage all Americans in reflecting on our nation’s past, honoring the contributions of all Americans, and looking ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.

America 250 will be celebrated on July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. However, the commemoration has already begun and will continue through 2026. There are a variety of ways to get involved in America 250, including attending events, sharing your story, and volunteering.

Here are some of the goals of America 250:

  • To inspire all Americans to reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
  • To promote civic engagement and participation in democracy.
  • To celebrate the diversity of the American people and our shared values.
  • To educate the public about our nation’s history and culture.
  • To promote economic development and job creation.

America 250 is an opportunity for all Americans to come together and celebrate our nation’s history, culture, and values. It is also a time to reflect on the challenges we face and to work together to create a better future for all.
