HARRISBURG– UPMC in Central Pa. will host Student and Parent Career Night events in October and November to introduce area students and their parents to rewarding careers in health care. The events will be held on or near UPMC hospital campuses across the region, starting at UPMC Carlisle on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Health care is one of the fastest growing employment sectors in the United States. Careers can range from direct patient care, like nursing or therapy, to behind-the-scenes work in a laboratory or pharmacy, to non-clinical positions in support services and professional or administrative areas.
Student and Parent Career Night will give families the opportunity to talk with experts about the wide variety of opportunities in health care fields and find out what education and skills they would need to pursue a career in the industry.
Students and parents can also learn about the UPMC Scholars Program. As part of this program, graduates in selected health care fields who work at UPMC will receive payments in addition to their salaries equivalent to the cost of their education. The program is available for high-demand positions, including cardiac sonographers, pharmacy technicians, medical assistants and more.
As an added benefit, UPMC offers a “tech in training” program that is available for students who wish to work and gain hands-on experience while pursuing a health care education.
Various schools and universities will be in attendance to discuss their academic health care programs. UPMC will also have staff from multiple departments available to talk to students and parents, including, but not limited to:
Community LifeTeam EMS General Maintenance Heart and Vascular Institute Human Resources Imaging Medical Group/Physician Offices Nursing Occupational Therapy | Oncology Patient Care Assistants Pharmacy Physical Therapy Speech Therapy Security/Policing Surgical Services Volunteer Services |
