GREENCASTLE – A crowd of over 130 people joined the Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce at
Green Grove Garden’s for their annual Chamber Banquet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The Chamber sponsors this event each year to recognize outgoing and incoming Presidents of
the Chamber Board, and to highlight two individuals as the Roy S. F. Angle Business Person of
the Year and the Chamber Champion.

This year’s Business Person of the Year Award, sponsored by F&M Trust, went to Arlene Unger
of Re/Max Results, and Ed Herald received the Chamber Champion Award, sponsored by

The Business Person of the Year Award is presented to a professional person employed by a
member business who has made a significant contribution in the local area.

Since 2007, Ms Unger has been recognized yearly for her career achievements with Corporate
ReMax, Re/Max Associates Real Estate Group and ReMax Results. She is consistently a top
producer and has been awarded the ReMax Hall of Fame and ReMax Lifetime Achievement
Awards. For the last three years she has been a top 25 ReMax agent for all of Maryland. Her
team is consistently in the Top Producers Club. Ms Unger distinguished herself not only as
leader of the Arlene Unger Real Estate Team which she established here in 2020, but by also
establishing the All Directions Real Estate rental management company in 2021 with a
significant number of properties managed.

Ms Unger was also recognized as a dedicated community servant. She has shared her time,
talents or financial support to local sports teams, the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of
Commerce, Mainstreet Inc., Meals on Wheels, New Hope Shelter, Antietam Humane Society,
The Lunch Place, Waynesboro Community and Human Services (WCHS), The Institute, and her
church – LCBC— to name just a few. She also serves on the boards of The Lunch Place,
Waynesboro Community and Human Services and The Institute.

Communications

The Chamber Champion Award is presented to an outstanding individual who works in many of
the same ways the Chamber does to improve the socio-economic well-being of the greater
Waynesboro area. Criteria include:

  • Investing in companies that are brought to or started in the area
  • Spearheading projects that bring business or tourism to the area or that instigate community
    cohesiveness and camaraderie
  • Working to obtain funding for community projects and/or business ventures, both of which
must benefit the community at large
  • Dedicated volunteerism that improves the quality of life for the greater Waynesboro area
    and its residents

Mr Herald demonstrated all the traits of a Chamber Champion by his long history and tireless
involvement in community activities. Born in Rhode Island, he joined the US Army out of
college with a final active duty assignment at Letterkenny. He later moved to the Army
Reserves, ultimately attaining the grade of Colonel. Over the course of his military career he
served in Virginia, Germany, Missouri and Kuwait. He brought the skills he learned in the
military to his civilian careers with JLG and Science Application International Corporation (SAIC,
subsequently renamed LEIDOS).

While living in St Thomas, Mr Herald became involved in community activities coaching girl’s
softball, engaging in church and Boy Scout leadership positions, and as township supervisor. On
moving to Waynesboro he continued serving the community, becoming a board member of
Five Forks Brethren in Christ and forming a Handyman Ministry. That ministry grew and
became known as the Works Projects where he and his team completed countless projects and
built more than 60 ramps in the past six years.

Mr Herald is also Vice President of the Chambersburg Project and helps oversee about 40
county projects a year. He also helps with the Moving Ministry at his church to help those who
don’t have the financial resources to move and helps with a Financial Support group to help
families in need of assistance. He serves with Ms Unger at WCHS. He is also a member of the
Board of Trustees at The Institute.

Sid Creager congratulated for his service by incoming Chamber President Evelyn
Farnsworth and Jackie Mowen, Chamber Director

During the business portion of the meeting, outgoing Chamber President Mr Sid Creager of the
Musselman & Creager LLP accounting firm was honored for steady leadership during 2022-2023. Ms Evelyn Farnsworth of F&M Trust accepted the position of Chair of the Chamber Board
for 2023 – 2024.

Cherry Snyder recognized as outstanding long-time Chamber volunteer by Sean
Bockstie, Asst Chamber Director

Rounding out the evening, Ms Cherry Snyder received recognition for her tireless efforts to
support the Chamber as a volunteer for well over five years.
