CHAMBERSBURG – The Chambersburg Area School District Board of School Directors has announced the appointment of Mr. Christopher Bigger as the district’s next superintendent.

Mr. Bigger currently serves as the superintendent of the Littlestown School District, a position he has held since 2015.

“I was thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to return to Chambersburg and work with so many dedicated leaders, educators and staff,” Bigger said. “It is not an easy decision to leave Littlestown with the lifelong friendships I’ve created, along with the collaborative efforts we’ve developed to serve our community’s children. Chambersburg is a major assignment and a logical step for me at this juncture in my career. I’ve been fortunate to grow as a leader, and a professional since leading Littlestown. Together we can make a CASD an elite district!“ Bigger added.

Before leading Littlestown, Mr. Bigger served as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Technology, and High Schools within the Chambersburg Area School District. His career also included stints in the Canton Area School District and the Warrior Run School District as junior/senior High School Principal and Assistant Principal. Before becoming an administrator, Mr. Bigger taught for six years in the Fairfield Area School District, Montgomery Area School District, and in Baltimore City Public Schools. Concurrent with his time as a teacher and administrator, Mr. Bigger has been active as a presenter and coordinator of professional development at various seminars, conferences and school districts throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.

Mr. Bigger graduated from Penn State university with a bachelor’s degree in health and human development. He completed his masters work at Lehigh University in educational leadership and obtained his letter of eligibility at Shippensburg University.

Chambersburg Board President Dr. Mark Schur said the board is pleased to make this announcement after a comprehensive process. “The entire board worked hard on this project and I am grateful for their efforts. Ultimately it was Mr. Bigger’s extensive educational leadership experience, his innovative approach to addressing the challenges facing Chambersburg, and a deep understanding of our district that makes him a great fit,“ Schur said. “We have talked candidly about the current challenges facing Chambersburg and our efforts as a board to continuously improve. We believe Chris Bigger can lead us in designing and delivering a compelling future for Chambersburg.”

The board will introduce Mr. Bigger to the school community soon and begin working on a series of transition activities. “On behalf of the board, the district, and the entire school community, we want to extend our deepest appreciation to Mr. Kurt Widmann and Dr. Larry Redding for serving as our acting superintendents throughout this process, and we are pleased to continue working with Dr. Redding as we transition to new leadership. Finally, a note of thanks for those who participated in the focus groups’ discussions early in the process. We value your opinions and will continue to utilize that information as we plan for the future of Chambersburg,” Schur concluded.
