WAYNESBORO – It was another spectacular spring day that was tailor-made for a track and field meet, and the Waynesboro boys and girls teams turned in another spectacular performance as they hosted cross-county opponent James Buchanan.
The Waynesboro boys team defeated James Buchanan 93-57. The Maidens topped the Lady Rockets 101-49.
In the boys competition, the Tribe won two out of the three relay events. The team of Noah Bockstie, Joey Jacobs, Julian Mencia and Wil Campbell won the 3200-meter relay with a time of 8:50.4. The foursome of Williams, Jaylon Bean, Montel Pettway and Preston Hammond won the 400 relay in 44.8 seconds.
In all, Waynesboro won 11 of 18 events.
Jaylon Bean won three individual events: the 110-meter hurdles (15.6 seconds), the long jump (20-8) and the triple jump (43-2).
In the valley adjacent to the baseball field, Benjamin Williams won the shot put (38 feet, 1 ½ inches) and the javelin throw (146 feet). Teammate Tanyon Shaull was runner up in both events.
Hammond was a double winner in individual events. He won the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds and the 200 dash in 23.4 seconds. Pettway was second in both events, while Mencia was runner up in the 800 run behind Calo, who won with a time of 2:16.2.
Joey Jacobs won the eight-lap 3200 run with a time of 10:40. Bockstie was second.
In the girls meet, the Maidens swept all three relay events, beginning with the 3200 relay. In the 400 relay, Nora Dickey, Lainey Peyton, Gracie French and Jada Creager crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 51.9 seconds. The 1600 relay team of French, Sierra Rae, Isabella Ruefle and True Benchoff won in 4:27.0.
Waynesboro then won 11 individual events, including two by Benchoff. Benchoff won the 100 hurdles in 17.3 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 49.3 seconds.
Creager also was a double winner, as she captured first place in the 100 dash with a tie of 12.7 seconds and the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet even.
French was victorious in the 200 dash in 27.0 seconds. Ella Swartz won the 800 run in 2:36.2. Jada Dockman needed fewer attempts to win the high jump, as she and teammate Charlotte Rhodes both had identical jumps of 4-10.
Ana Enfusse won the triple jump with a jump of 31-10, and Olivia Dingzon won the discus throw with 92-8.
The wins improve the boys and girls teams records to 4-1 with one more dual meet on the schedule against Greencastle-Antrim in Greencastle on Tuesday.
