It’s complicated enough to host just one wrestling tournament.
There are registrations to file, volunteers to recruit and manage, and brackets to create. It’s quite a bit of work.
But when presented with the option of hosting a tournament, the Waynesboro youth wrestling program asked: Why not two?
It was an ambitious plan, but Indians youth coach Brandon Beltz and Co. pulled it off last weekend, successfully hosting the CPYWL Southern Qualifier on Saturday, before regrouping on Sunday to run the CPYWL Novice Tournament.
Waynesboro was not only a quality host, its wrestlers also turned in outstanding efforts on the mat, with seven wrestlers winning championships on both days, including Elijah Pradhan (Bantam, 40), Noah Fortney (Bantam, 44), Noah Swope (Bantam, 48), Chase Belford (Midget, 46), Ace Beltz (Midget, 56), Douglas Demott (Midget, 84), and Freedom Young (Junior, 55).
Greencastle crashed the CPYWL party on both days, with Jeremiah Murray sweeping the 87-pound championships in the Intermediate Division.
One week prior to CPYWLs, Chambersburg’s youth wrestling program took on the CPWA Open Championships, with heavyweight Deakon Snavely winning a title.
