The Waynesboro Police Department is warning residents about a scam that is circulating regarding Amazon.
According to police, an individual is calling around claiming that they are from Amazon customer service and informs the recipient that there is an unusual purchase of a large amount and they are trying to confirm it. They proceeded to ask the victim for the last purchase made on their account. Once confirmed they proceed to ask for zip code, date of birth and phone number.
This is called phishing. Residents are reminded to not give out any information such as bank information, social security numbers, etc. to anyone. If you receive a call like this and are unsure if it is a scam, please disconnect the call and reach out to your local police department.
