HAGERSTOWN, MD–The City of Hagerstown’s annual eCycles day is Saturday, November 12. The City has contracted with Waste Management, Inc. to offer City residents a FREE and convenient opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted residential electronic devices and to securely shred unneeded personal documents. The event will be held rain or shine in the former Municipal Stadium parking lot at 274 East Memorial Boulevard from 10am-2pm, or until the trucks are full.
Acceptable items for electronics recycling include computers and computer components such as CPUs, monitors, printers, keyboards, scanners, photocopiers, and fax machines, in addition to televisions, VCRs, stereos, cell phones, home and office phones, and consumer electronics. Items that will not be accepted include microwave ovens, smoke detectors and alarms, thermostats, dehumidifiers, any unit containing sludge or liquids, non-decontaminated medical equipment, large appliances, and commercial bulk amounts.
Document shredding will be secure and green. All documents will be transported directly from the event to the paper shredding facility in a secured truck. They will then be shredded, baled, and sent to a paper recycling facility where the ink will be removed, the paper will be turned into pulp, and it will ultimately be used to create new paper or fiber products.
All participants will be asked to stay in their vehicles while workers remove their items. Recyclables should be placed in the trunk (or rear area of SUVs) for safe removal.
Hagerstown eCycles Day is for City residents only. Proof of residency will be required.
