Shepherd University Football Rolls over Lock Haven

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Senior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 16-of-21 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Shepherd University (6-0, 3-0 PSAC East) to a 72-7 win over Lock Haven (1-5, 0-3 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.  

Shepherd took a 6-0 lead when Bagent connected with junior wide receiver Alphonso Foray (Germantown, Md./Northwest/Lackawanna) on a 19-yard scoring play with 10:24 left in the first quarter. 

Freshman defensive back Donte Harrison (Washington, D.C./Archbishop Carroll) picked off a Lock Haven pass and dashed 79 yards for a score with 6:08 left in the first quarter. Redshirt sophomore kicker Jacob Haynie (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) added the extra point. 

Bagent teamed with redshirt sophomore wide receiver Ryan Beach (Frederick, Md./Northwest) on a five-yard scoring pass with 4:08 left in the first quarter to up the lead to 20-0. 

Bagent tossed a seven-yard scoring pass to Foray with14:54 left in the second quarter. 

Bagent scored on a one-yard dive with 14:13 left in the second quarter to increase the lead to 34-0. 

Redshirt freshman running back Blake Hartman (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/Lehigh) scored on a two-yard run with 3:50 left in the half to make it 41-0. 

Junior running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) raced 85 yards for a score with 1:48 left in the half to give the Rams a 48-0 lead at the break. 

Sophomore Avaughn Holley (Pomfret, Md./McDonough) ran four yards for a score with 11:45 remaining in the third quarter to open the second half scoring. 

Junior quarterback Christian Etchison (Eldersburg, Md./Westminster) fired a 60-yard scoring strike to freshman wide receiver Daryl Harper (Frederick, Md./Northwest) with 4:31 left in the third quarter to make it 62-0. 

Easton Turner fired a five-yard scoring strike to Chase Holmes for Lock Haven with 12:37 left in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 62-7.

Shepherd added a 42-yard scoring run from freshman running back Nazhir Russell (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) at the 12:02 mark and a 42-yard field goal from Haynie at the 2:52 mark to complete the scoring. 

Turner completed 19-of-36 passes for 173 yards and a score for the Bald Eagles.

Brown had four carries for 95 yards and Hartman added nine carries for 89 yards to lead the Shepherd ground game. DeAndre Wakefield had 18 carries for 48 yards for Lock Haven. 

Harper had three catches for 60 yards, while Foray had three grabs for 26 yards with a pair of touchdown grabs to lead the Rams. Wakefield had five catches for 35 yards and Holmes added four receptions for 55 yards to pace the Bald Eagles. 

Shepherd had 592 yards of total offense while limiting Lock Haven to 234 yards. 

Freshman linebacker JT Kouame-Yao (Centreville, Va./Westfield) led the defense with seven stops (four solos). Sophomore defensive end Isaiah Farmer (York, S.C./Clover) added five solo stops with three tackles-for-loss and a sack. Damien Vernon had eight tackles to lead the Bald Eagles. 

The Rams return to action Saturday when they host Millersville at noon for Homecoming.
