CHAMBERSBURG–One person was killed in a construction accident Tuesday afternoon at Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread in Guilford Township.

Emergency crews were dispatched just after 2 p.m. Tuesday to the 1000 block of Garber Road for a structural collapse.

According to responders, three concrete slab walls collapsed, reportedly on a new construction site. The collapse team from Washington County, Md., HRD search dogs and multiple emergency services crews were on the scene through Wednesday.

“We are deeply saddened that during yesterday’s construction accident, one of the construction workers–an employee of High Construction [of Lancaster] was unaccounted for. First responders and specialized search and rescue teams worked for many hours looking for him. Late [Tuesday] night, it was discovered that he was deceased. We mourn this tragic loss of life and ask that you join us in praying for the family and coworkers of this young man,” said a statement from Martin’s.

Company officials said the collapse occurred on several newly erected walls at a new construction site, not on the current production facility or corporate buildiing.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
