WAYNESBORO—A local education center will celebrate 50 years with a ribbon cutting Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m.

Waynesboro Day Care Center, 1801 E. Main St., will debut its new playground area, which was fully funded through generous donations from the community and grant funding.

Following the ribbon cutting, the public is invited for refreshments and a tour of the center.

Over the past several years, WDCC completed extensive renovations to improve the quality of care and educational programs offered to the children. However, the charm and uniqueness of the building remains the same as when the center opened in 1972.

The celebration will continue on Saturday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a community event featuring Robert Brown, one of the founding fathers of WDCC in 1972. Brown will welcome everyone at 11:30 a.m., followed by a recognition of past and present staff and board members. Both events are open to the community.
