ROUZERVILLE—The long wait is over for those who want to know what will replace the former Food Lion store in Waynesboro Market Place on Buchanan Trail East—Horizon Goodwill.
“The new store is more than double the size of the previous store and has the height of the grocery store and the brightness of the grocery store to make shopping more open and enjoyable,” said Craig Foster, Horizon Goodwill spokesman.
Foster said moving the store down the plaza just made good sense.
“We often get encouraged to open a larger store, but with our business model, so much of our success is based on the community. When the new space became available, all the stars aligned just right and we quickly jumped on it,” he said.
HGI operates 18 stores and 20 donation sites in the four-state area, with the Waynesboro and Greencastle stores in Pennsylvania under their umbrella.
The thrift stores offer clothing, housewares, electronics, shoes, furniture, bedding, toys and jewelry.
By donating and shopping at Goodwill stores, shoppers are helping people in their community by supporting the nonprofit’s mission of “Removing Barriers, Creating Opportunities” through workforce development.
Horizon Goodwill’s Career Development Services and Job Training Programs work closely with individuals to help prepare them for participation in the world of work and match skills and abilities with community and employer needs, as well as offering post-employment support to assist in maintaining employment and exploring career and personal development opportunities.
A ribbon-cutting will be held Friday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. at the new store, with special guests, prizes, snacks and giveaways. The first 50 customers that day will receive a reusable Goodwill tote.
