WAYNESBORO – Let’s forget 2020 never happened.

Let’s get ready for some basketball – Waynesboro style.

After playing a shortened 2020-21 season, high schools throughout Pennsylania are eager to play a full slate of games this time around.

Tom Hoffman enters his 22nd season as head coach of the Indians. This year’s squad has all seniors and juniors. Seniors Reese Cover and Blake Carbaugh are projected to start, as are juniors Jaylon Bean, Ryan Shaffer and Michael Young.

Cover averaged 11.2 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per outing a season ago, best among starters.

“Reese had a very good junior year that was derailed by injury,” Hoffman said of the 6-foot-4 forward. “He is very much under the radar talent who is looking to stay healthy and build off last year. I’m not sure people realize how good he is.”

Bean is another 6-4 forward, giving the Indians some height that will no doubt come in handy a lot this season. Shaffer is a 6-4 guard.

Waynesboro has historically played an intense up-tempo game, and depth will be needed.

Expected to contribute off the bench are Tanyon Shaull (6-3, guard), Louis Lindsay (5-10, guard) and Cooper Hough (5-10, guard).

Waynesboro will host this year’s Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament, which also features Greencastle-Antrim, James Buchanan and Chambersburg. The tourney will take place on Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11.
