SHIPPENSBURG – The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team dominated Salem on Sunday to post its second straight victory, defeating the Tigers by a score of 103-67 in a non-conference matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (4-2) never trailed and shot 62.3 percent from the field – its best rate since shooting 64.4 percent in a 74-44 win over Millersville on Jan. 3, 2017. SU scored more than 20 points in every quarter and achieved its first 100-point game since a 106-68 victory over Dominican on Nov. 30, 2014.
The Raiders unleashed a 20-4 run in the first five minutes of the game and finished the first quarter shooting 76.2 percent from the field. Salem (1-5) trailed by 21 points entering the second quarter and would not get any closer than 16 points for the remainder of the game.
For the second straight game, all five Shippensburg starters finished with double figures. Junior Lauren Mills (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) posted two career highs with 22 points and eight assists. Mills also set a new single-game best by shooting 10 of 14 from the field, and she added four rebounds.
Senior Destiny Jefferson (Scranton/West Scranton (West Chester)) has posted double figures in all six games this season; she finished Sunday with 19 points, five assists and two steals. Jefferson was perfect from the three-point line, going 3-of-3.
Junior Lauren Pettis (HarrisburgSusquehanna Township) posted her third double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Pettis shot 7 of 12 from the field and added an assist and a block. Sophomore Treasure George (Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) posted a career high of eight assists, including six assists in the first 10 minutes of the game. George scored in double figures for the second straight game with 12 points and six rebounds.
Freshman Taja Colbert (Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) matched her career high of 11 points and shot 5-of-7 from the field. Colbert added two assists and one steal.
Freshman Abbie Miller (Camp Hill/Cumberland Valley) made it six total Raiders in double figures, posting career highs of 12 points, six rebounds and one assist. Miller went 5 of 9 from the field.
Shippensburg is back in action at 5:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts Mercyhurst.
