Waynesboro shuts out James Buchanan

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro varsity wrestling team made quick work of visiting James Buchanan on Tuesday night.

In a meet with three forfeits and two no contests, the Indians recorded pins in the other bouts en route to a 66-0 victory in the team’s second Mid-Penn Colonial Division competition.

Waynesboro was coming off a 40-16 loss to West Perry last Thursday.

Colby Bittorie started things off for Waynesboro. He scored on a takedown and three-point near fall to take a 5-0 lead after the first period. Bittorie started the second period in the down position, but he didn’t stay there very long. He escaped, took down Jacob Frey and then registered the pin in 2 minutes, 40 seconds.

Teammate Garrett Lowans followed Bittorie’s lead in what began as a closely-contested 160-pound bout. James Buchanan’s Nathan Brake scored the initial takedown. Lowans fought back, scoring on an escape for one point and then a takedown for a 3-2 lead.

Lowans started down in the second period and scored another escape point before parlaying a takedown into a pin in 3:30 for a 12-0 lead.

Waynesboro’s Titus Mong was awarded a forfeit at 172 pounds. Waynesboro’s Kyle Maldanado pinned Landon Myers in 1:04 in the 189-pound match to kickstart a three-pin streak that also saw Isaac Bautista (215) and Cort Myers (285) winning by fall.

There was no contest at 106 pounds, and Waynesboro’s Michael Tweed notched another pin for the Indians at 113 pounds. After scoring on a takedown, Tweed stuck a cradle for the fall in 1:44 to give Waynesboro a 42-0 lead.

Two more Tribe grapplers, Jayden Rooney (120) and Garrett Price (132) were awarded forfeits.

There was no match at 126 pounds.

Bodie Rouzer won the 138-pound bout with a 12-second pin, while brother Kaden Rouzer recorded a fall in 1:06 to end the contest.

Waynesboro’s next competition will be the annual Trojan Wars tournament hosted by Chambersburg High School on Dec. 29 and 30.
