Only one wrestler — the eventual state champion — could hold a candle to Mirra Harbaugh at last weekend’s Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships, held at First Summit Arena at Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown.
Chambersburg’s Harbaugh, wrestling at 150 pounds, marched all the way to the state semifinals before she was finally knocked out by Mt. Lebanon’s Camilla Hathaway, who went on to win the championship. Harbaugh shrugged off the loss and won two consolation matches to nail down a third-place medal.
Harbaugh was one of three Chambersburg wrestlers to climb the awards stand last weekend. Deakon Snavely finished fourth for the boys at 212 pounds, while Piper Jones landed a fifth-place finish in the girls’ 127-pound bracket.
Fairfield’s youth wrestling program also had a nice weekend on the tournament scene, with two Knights wrestlers securing runner-up medals. Wyatt Sager took second at 55-59 pounds in the 6U Novice division at Mifflin County March Matness, while Lainey Miller visited the Nittany Lion Tournament in State College and landed a runner-up finish at 75-90 pounds in the girls 7-8 division.
