It may be hard to believe with snow still on the ground, but the auto racing season is set to kick off in less than a month.
Drivers will shake off the rust (and icicles) when they converge upon Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown for Icebreaker Weekend on Feb. 22-23, with other circuits scheduled to open their seasons in the weeks to follow.
Hagerstown Speedway will kick off its season on March 22 for the Winter Thaw, a race program that will feature Late Model Sportsman, Crate Late Models, Semi Late Models, and Pure Stocks divisions. Another track in our backyard, Path Valley Speedway, opens its 2025 slate on April 5 for the Claybreaker Season Opener, with races scheduled for 270 Sprints, 600 Sprints, Wingless Super Sportsman, Thunder Cars, and East Coast Legends.
Path Valley has added more than 25 loads of freshly-sifted clay to its raceway in the offseason, and has renovated its bleachers. Lighting improvements are also in the works for the pit area. The raceway is aiming to look its best for when it hosts a pair of 410 Sprints events this season. The first 410 Sprints feature will be held as part of PA Speedweek on July 6, and the second event will be held on Sept. 28 as the Kubota High Limit Series makes its debut at Path Valley.
