High School Scores and Standings from May 4-9

Smithsburg’s baseball squad will be playing for a region title.

The Leopards earned that right last week following two victories in the Class 1A West Region II bracket. Third-seeded Smithsburg started off with a 12-2 win over No. 6 Francis Scott Key, before advancing to the final with a 9-6 win over No. 2 Brunswick. The Leopards will now take on No. 4 Boonsboro for the region championship.

Greencastle-Antrim and Waynesboro’s baseball teams will be looking forward to the postseason in Pennsylvania after finishing in tie for the Mid-Penn Colonial Division crown. The Blue Devils also went undefeated on the softball field last week to earn a share of the Colonial title.

Sticking with softball, three area squads survived regional quarterfinal playoff games last week: North Hagerstown, South Hagerstown, and Smithsburg.

The Washington County Outdoor Track Championships saw North Hagerstown sweep the boys and girls team championships. The Hub boys got wins from Jonathan Morris (300 hurdles, 43.85) and Elias House (pole vault, 11-0), while the girls got victories from six different athletes: Mackenzie Philp (400, 1:00.16; 800, 2:22.73), Annabelle Schaberl (100, 12.34), Taraji Nartey (200, 25.94), Dayanah Brunson (300 hurdles, 50.45), Caroline Raman (1,600, 5:14.54), and Anna Ramanan (3,200, 12:18.84).

Dylan Herbst, of Smithsburg, won the 800 (2:00.11) and 1,600 (4:29.23) at the boys county meet, while teammate Michael Wynkoop conquered the 3,200 in 9:54.05. South Hagerstown’s Torin Sitter blasted off for victory in the 200 (22.41) and 400 (49.24). Girls county titles were earned by Smithsburg’s Skyla Mastronardi (high jump, 5-4) and South Hagerstown’s Trinity Savage (long jump, 17-7.5) and Chloe Gietka (triple jump, 36-8.5).

Finally, Chambersburg claimed three gold medals at last weekend’s Mid-Penn Conference Championships. Okenie McLaughlin won the long jump (23-0) and triple jump (46-11.5), while Julian Clark surged to victory in the 3,200 in 9:30.38.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
