Chambersburg’s wrestling program — both the boys and the girls — kicked off the individual postseason with a bang last weekend.
With 178 points, the Trojan boys finished as the top squad out of 16 teams at the Section III-3A Tournament at Mechanicsburg. Chambersburg sent nine wrestlers to the awards stand, including Ashton Romberger, who captured the 139-pound championship.
The Trojan girls finished fourth out 23 teams at the Section II Tournament at Mechanicsburg, with both Reagan Evans (130) and Aulana Stanton (170) returning to Chambersburg as champions. Waynesboro’s Kenadee Shockey seized the 190-pound title.
Speaking of Waynesboro wrestling, the Tribe boys will be sending four wrestlers to regionals after competition at the Section IV-3A Tournament at South Western. Leading the way for the Waynesboro quartet are a couple of third-place finishers in Anthony Ausherman (215) and Jayden Rooney (145).
In the world of swimming, last weekend’s Mid-Penn Plunge at Northern was a chance to shine for the athletes who don’t normally grab the headlines. Greencastle-Antrim’s Sean Detwiler and Fairfield’s Samantha Lawler made the most of the meet by winning two events apiece. Detwiler claimed victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.16) and 200 IM (1:58.58), while Lawler surged to wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.25) and 200 IM (2:24.52).
Finally, the regular season is over for Mid-Penn boys and girls basketball squads. Chambersburg’s boys team is the lone area squad that has advanced to the district playoffs.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News coverage area performed last week:
