It’s always a big deal when a wrestling team can crown just a single champion on the postseason tournament scene, so one can only imagine the pride that came when one family crowned two champions at last weekend’s Central Pennsylvania Wrestling Association Open and Girls Championships, hosted by Central Dauphin East.
Waynesboro’s Beltz family pulled off that rare feat when siblings Ace and Aven, under their father/coach Brandon Beltz, both soared to titles. Ace won the open championship at 62 pounds, while Aven secured a girls title at 44-48. The Beltz siblings highlighted a group of 10 Tribe wrestlers who made it to the medal stand last weekend.
Emma Hind also won a girls title for Waynesboro at 55-56, and she was joined on the awards stand by a group that included Colton Ogburn (second at 115), Emma Swope (third at Girls 59-64), Eli Hind (third at 71), Vivienne Dick (fourth at Girls 95-100), Freedom Young (fifth at 65), Issac Fann (seventh at 53) and Brixton Hollimon (eighth at 65).
Two champions from Chambersburg – Gabe Creamer (105) and Ireland Zubia (Girls 76-80) – led a group of medalists that included Frankie Bryan (second at 75), Trey Ashway (third at 79), Joshua Messenger (fourth at 115), Jack Zimmerman (fourth at 150), Marissa Temchack (fourth at Girls 63-67), Nallah Dickson (fourth at Girls 91-95), Atlee Spidell (fourth at Girls 100-109), Myles Spidell (fifth at 56), Knox Bryan (fifth at 68), Abel Hight (fifth at 95), Archer Hight (sixth at 95), Kyler Carbaugh (eighth at 150) and Ethan Purcell (eighth at 200).
Greencastle crowned a 130-pound champion in Ethan Allen, who was joined on the medal stand by Brady Skates (second at 150), Harper Duffey (second at Girls 67-70), Alayna McAtee (third at Girls 80-87), Jude Burns (fourth at 50), Sophia Allen (fourth at Girls 55-56), Korra Young (fourth at Girls 73-75) and Liam Dietrich (seventh at 130).
Finally, the York County Youth Wrestling League West Championships were held last weekend, with two Fairfield wrestlers – Gracie Colosimo (Bantam UNL) and Troy Hewitt (Junior 85) – nailing down titles. Other medalists for the Knights were Wyatt Sager (second at Bantam 55), Maddie Colosimo (second at Bantam UNL), Allison Sprankle (second at Bantam 75), Zadie Bollinger (second at Junior 98), Grayson Wiles (third at Midget 105), Tray Williams (fourth at Bantam 40), Andi Keeney (fourth at Bantam 60), and Lainey Miller (fourth at Midget 70).
The youth wrestling postseason continues in the weeks to come with qualifying tournaments for the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling and Keystone State Championships.
